Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

My commitment to a new fitter ready marathon runner may not have quite taken the form I wanted it to this week, but I was willing to give it a go. Which means that anybody can join in and will more than likely beat me. Your support is much appreciated and I would encourage you to act now and register for the ESF 50th Anniversary Marathon here.

Year 7s continue to enjoy their new environment and experienced our first ID competition, the ID Math Competition. Teams from each Dynasty enjoyed solving maths in a competition which involved high levels of team work. They worked well together and it was great to see so much enthusiasm and fun. Thank you Mr Madden and Mr Harding for enabling the launch.

Year 8 were less active and spent time to reflect and focus their minds. Organised in Dynasties during 1-2-1 lessons, students relaxed through yoga, martial arts, colouring, origami, enjoying the great outdoors and board games. I would encourage you to read what the students said about the day.

Commendations this week to Colin and Selena who have each won a merit after writing for the Cambridge University Hong Kong & China Affairs Society Essay Competition. Their entries explored the recent cause and consequences for democratic protestors in Hong Kong which demanded sensitivity and maturity well beyond their age. A very notable achievement.

Finally, our thanks to Year 7 parent, Mrs Kennix Chim who assisted the library to wrap 200 mathematics books this week and because of her assistance, we were able to hand over the books much earlier than had been anticipated.

Next week are the Pre 16 swimming heats and I look forward to seeing the competitors and parents are most welcome to come and show their support too.
