Youth Consultative Group on Racial Equality and Integration

Hong Kong’s Equal Opportunities Commission are looking for young people interested in ethnic minority and race-related issues, who are committed to improving cultural integration and racial equality!

The Commission is setting up a Youth Consultative Group on Racial Equality and Integration to voice young people’s opinions on different public platforms, including the Legislative Council. Your opinions will also be incorporated into the Commission’s recommendations to the Government.

Both Chinese and non-Chinese students in Years 11 to 13 are welcome to apply; selected candidates will be expected to serve a two-year term. The commitment will include:

  1. Three annual meetings,
  2. A weekend orientation camp and
  3. A series of training sessions on race discrimination and other issues facing ethnic minorities in Hong Kong

As well as an interest in the issues to be considered, you need to have good interpersonal skills in communication and cooperation, and a track record of service involvement.

You should contact Ms Kitson before 26 June with a 300-word response to the question “What can you do to help promote racial equality and integration in Hong Kong?” This will be used to select the two students WIS will nominate. If short-listed, you will also be required to attend an interview.

This is an incredible opportunity to get involved in Hong Kong’s community and make a meaningful different in peoples’ lives – I look forward to reading your submissions!
