WIS Newsletter – 20.8.2021

Message from Mr Sammons

Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Friends of WIS,

Great to welcome students back to school and see people reconnecting this week. During assemblies, we celebrated the success of graduating students and all their achievements. We talked about the world pandemic of 1918-1921, similarities and differences, and how newspapers at that time reported about what they imagined their world would be like in 100 years time – in fact, our reality today! Remarkable how much they got right, including tunnels under the sea.

With hope, we have asked young people to imagine again about their future and to know the world is moving forward with  many good things on the horizon. All year groups have made new beginnings that serve them well and long may they continue to appreciate and take care of each other’s differences and talents.

Enjoy a good weekend,
Mr Sammons
Principal

Dynasty Day at WIS

It’s a new year and a welcome back to the Dynasty system at WIS! We celebrated as a community our first Dynasty Day on Friday 20 August with the six Dynasty colours sprayed across the school. Students were welcomed through the front gates by the mascots and the Dynasty Leaders and this was promptly followed by an informative assembly introducing the leaders and updating the students on our community partners and the year ahead. Well done to the Dynasty Leaders for their party atmosphere and here’s to a great Dynasty year ahead!

Mr Blake Harding
Head of Dynasty

Karen Wong at Splash Foundation

Well done to Karen Wong (Year 10) who participated in a Charity Swim for Splash Foundation over the summer.

Splash Foundation aims to provide free swimming lessons for migrant workers and children from low-income backgrounds in Hong Kong. As well as taking part in the Splash-a-thon, Karen also set up a fundraiser for the charity and was able to raise HKD1,300.

Well done Karen and we look forward to hearing more about your service work with Splash and other organisations.
