Winston Lam Receives Honorary Mention at iYRC

The 2nd International Young Researchers’ Conference (IYRC) was held in Tokyo on 29 and 30 November. Participants from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, UK, and the USA were selected to present at the conference. Topics included Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, Education, Humanities,Literature, Sociology and Economics fields. The goal of the conference was to provide an avenue for budding scientists and motivated secondary school students to share and present their research results with their peers and the wider community. It is intended to help foster the spirit of research in secondary schools. Twenty papers made it to the final.

The topic of my paper was “Reduction in air pollution to build and maintain a sustainable global society”. Air pollution was the topic I briefly researched during my Global Perspectives study, and I further developed it to participate in this conference. This conference was a very valuable and eye-opening experience for me, and I had the opportunity to meet participants from different parts of the world, make new friends, and share various insights with them.

I felt honoured and proud to have received an award for the “Honorable Mention Award in Humanities/Social Sciences”, and I hope that my paper and presentation has contributed to the awareness of reducing air pollution, while also being a good experience for me entering the world of academic research.

My special thanks to Ms. Catherine Schofield who was my Year 11 Global Perspectives teacher, and Dr. Rachel Yu who not only helped my presentation practice, but also gave her inspiration and encouragement.
