Principal’s message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

A busy week for staff and students at West Island during Horizons week. Watching the images and hearing stories has made us feel really proud; we’ll give a fuller report and give thanks to our committed teaching team next week.

Before then there’s a moment here to catch up with alumni. In recognition of exceptional progress, Anitha Suresh has been appointed student ambassador for HKUST and will be sharing her experience with current students about marketing and management degrees. Tanya Buxani has also received honourable citations for her academic exchange with Ramon Llull University.

The Dean has awarded honourable citations to Karan Sehgal and Shinichiro Yoshiike who are pursuing business and management degrees. Karan Sehgal is recognised for his outstanding work and is awarded a university scholarship.

To be included in the honours roll at one of the regions most competitive universities is a moment of celebration and we respect the progress all our alumni are continuing to make in their studies. Well done to you all!

In the arts, alumni Disha Daryanani has launched her solo music career in the US following her graduation from Pace University in New York. In sport, alumni Calvin Harris has set a new standard by becoming the first Hong Kong-based player to receive a scholarship to the top-ranked American university – Wake Forest.

Congratulations to our tennis team who have won against WYHK at HKSSF and good luck to students competing in the inter-dynasty athletics heats next week. Attending to your own heart and mind, I would love to see as many WIS parents as we can muster for the ESF run on 26 January. The event was a huge success last year and we would like to invite more students and parents to join us. Many of us from West Island will be attempting to raise some funds for the Joshua Hellman Foundation in memory of Kelly Cheng, and it would be lovely for Kelly’s parents if you who would like to run alongside us, too. Walk, crawl or run over a variety of distances: 1 km, 3 km or 10 km. The deadline for sign up is 14 December.

Happy weekend,

Chris Sammons

Principal
