PE Fitness Stars

The PE department at West Island School always has the health and welfare of our students at the forefront of every aspect of Physical Education. Students at West Island School take part in consistent fitness testing to help develop personal fitness targets which will in turn aid their sporting performances and help them to lead a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Throughout each term students will take part in the Bleep Test and a cardiovascular run.

The bleep test, also known as the multi-stage fitness test, is a series of stages that have different tasks sometimes used by sports coaches and trainers to estimate an athlete’s VO2 max (maximum oxygen uptake). For the PE Faculty at West island School, it gives us  an accurate indication of cardiovascular fitness, one of the more important components of Fitness and general health.

The Cardiovascular Run is set around the PoK Fu Lam community and is used as our official cross country track. The course is a 2.7km run with challenging hills, flats and downhills to test the runner. It again acts as a great indicator of cardiovascular fitness, one of the more important components of Fitness and general health.

The PE Faculty keep records of every student in the school and this has enabled us to work closely on target setting for all abilities and fitness levels. It has also enabled us to put together our current Fitness Honours Board with the following information:

  • Top 30 Cross Country Run Improvers

  • Top 30 Boys Cross Country

  • Top 30 Girls Cross Country

  • Top 30 Bleep Test Scores

We very much hope this helps to motivate our students to set new and challenging personal fitness targets, alongside helping them to sustain an active and healthy lifestyle!
