Ethan Saw places second for the Top Speaker of age under 13

Congratulations to Year 9 student Ethan Saw who placed second for the Top Speaker of age under 13 at the Asian Schools British Parliamentary Championship 2016 (“ABC”). This ABC was jointly organised by Capstone (HK) and the Cambridge Union (UK). It is the first ever out-of-Europe expansion of the world renowned Cambridge Schools Debating Competition. With participants coming in from all over Asia and judges from Cambridge flying in to Hong Kong to adjudicate the championship, the ABC is unprecedented in terms of both participant diversity and adjudication quality for school-level debating in Hong Kong and Asia.

Ethan teamed up with Arianna Chan from German Swiss School and the duo performed outstandingly and gained a total of nine points – only one point away from the required score to break into the next round.

The top 8 teams of this ABC are entitled to a place at the Finals’ Day of the Cambridge Schools Debating Championship to be held on 18 February 2017 at the University of Cambridge in England.
Ethan added, “I had lots of fun debating in this ABC and the experience I have gained is memorable. I hope one day in the near future I can represent West Island School and Asia in the Finals of the Cambridge Schools Debating Championship at the University of Cambridge in England.”
Congratulations to Ethan on a marvelous achievement!
