DIWALI BALL 2017 – A CELEBRATION TO REMEMBER!

West Island School’s annual Diwali Ball entertained over 650 guests this year over two nights, making it the largest event we’ve showcased. The audience loved every minute of “My Big Fat Indian Wedding” and showed their engagement through hysterical laughter at the acting performances and clapping along to the spectacular dance performances. The audience members as well as the 250 students in the show got to enjoy delicious dinner provided by Jashan, which was definitely one of the highlights of the nights. As usual, the show was made up of hours of rehearsals of dancing, singing, acting and backstage production, all entirely led by our amazing WIS students.

This year we held the show over two nights which allowed participants and the audience to enjoy the show to its maximum. We enhanced the variety of performances this year by including a singing performance and an officially choreographed dance by Ms Cunliffe and her Momentum Dance group, both of which the audience absolutely loved. As per tradition, Mr Sammons had his dancing shoes on and joined in with the Year 13 dance to bring an exciting and enjoyable close to the show.

Diwali Ball would not be as spectacular and monumental if it weren’t for the people working behind the scenes as part of the organisation and production teams. The sound and lighting crew added a whole dimension to the performances, the promotions team designed a beautiful set up of posters and tickets for the event, the Diwali Ball committee worked amazingly to help the show run smoothly, and of course, the incredible Ms Hannaford who was the backbone of the entire show. We would not have a Diwali Ball if it weren’t for Ms Hannaford’s hard work, passion and pure resilience in making sure this event was nothing short of a success. We admire you immensely, Ms H and we can’t thank you enough.

Both nights ended full of enthusiastic compliments and positivity from everyone involved. Diwali Ball 2017 will definitely be an event to remember – especially with our show-stopper on the last night – and we hope to continue raising the bar even higher each year. Looking forward to seeing you all at Diwali Ball 2018!
