Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

Unusually, the working week began on Saturday with our annual WIS Technology Day where Year 7 parents and students were able to experience a range of activities in our D&T curriculum. The invitation for parents continued on Wednesday which was our Open Day. It was great to receive some feedback from a parent whose child is currently at Kennedy School. She said it was not just the obvious choice, but the best choice after seeing our resources, warmth and energy. It was great to give this feedback to staff who have worked intensely since August on our learner’s behalf.

Our Careers team continues to grow the information and guidance services available to students. Tuesday was the British Council Roadshow at WIS which saw a significant number of representatives from UK universities with us. The university admissions tutors visit a number of schools in Hong Kong and were very complimentary about the standards of questions and students future planning skills. Even our Year 7 have begun to consider and think about the opportunities open to them.

I am pleased to share that Dr Michael Botelho was nominated as Parent Representative for the School Council and will join our first meeting next Monday.

It would be remiss of me to not talk about our Inter Dynasty Swim Heats results. The students have competed well and preparation for next week’s Swim Gala and Sports Festival is well under way. Dynasty’s Got Talent has also kept students engaged and busy during our lunchtimes this week. I really enjoyed the dancing and have made a mental note to purchase a mat for the auditorium after seeing some incredible back flips. Good luck to all for the coming finals.

And talking of dancing, there are a few Diwali Ball tickets left if you have not yet got your order to us. If you are new to West Island School this year I would strongly encourage you to come. It is one of the most enjoyable evenings with dance, food and laughter.

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
(Principal)
