Information Session at WIS – Australian Universities

As an Australian citizen currently studying the IB program in Year 12 of West Island School, I am currently in a period of my life where I am beginning to make big decisions about what career I aspire to have and where I want to go for university. With so many options to consider and plans to make, it definitely gets a little bit overwhelming at times. I am very glad that I am able to rely on my school Higher Education and Careers team to support, guide and provide me with information about various universities.

On March 4, West Island School held an information session where a wide range of Australian Universities came to answer questions and provide prospective students with any information they might need when applying to their universities. Amongst the universities that attended were a few from the Australian Group of Eight universities, including Monash University, University of Queensland, Melbourne University, University of Adelaide and The Australian National University. This information session allowed students to interact with the representatives of the universities and gave us a first-hand insight into what my life will be like as a student of those universities as well as the requirements related to the enrollment into them.

I am extremely grateful to the supportive and organised Higher Education team I have at West Island School, who empowered me with useful information of what I need to do in order to maximise my chances to get into a university of my choice. Before the event, I spent a lot of time trying to understand the Australian high education system, especially the somewhat confusing fact that different universities’ requirement for the same course (e.g. medicine) might differ. I now know what measures I need to take to ensure I am prepared for presenting my application. The Australian Universities information session at WIS was definitely useful for my parents and for myself. I now feel very confident about applying to my future university.
