WIS U20 Jing Ying Football Championships 2018

Having finished second to DBS in the Division 1 HKSSF Football league the WIS U20 squad qualified for what is known as the ‘Champions League’ of Hong Kong School Football. A straight knockout tournament featuring the 24 highest ranked schools (both local and international) in HK. Progressing through the preliminary rounds with confidence the team made it to the semi’s and were faced with the tournament favourites TCH.

Through a combination of a disciplined approach and solid team work WIS held onto a 1-0 victory that saw them reach the finals and have the chance to play for the championship cup against our nearest rivals Diocesan Boys School (DBS). The final was well competed by both schools going all the way to penalties after a 0-0 result. A time for the goalkeepers to shine and that’s exactly what the WIS GK Yanou did saving a number of penalties allowing Max Donovan the chance to seal the win on the 9th penalty.

It has been a seven year wait for WIS U20/A-Grade Football to be victorious over DBS and an even longer 14 year gap since winning the Jing Ying Cup again. A fantastic effort throughout the season by the entire squad. Well done boys.
