Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

Thank you to all the parents and friends of West Island School who interviewed students in Year 11 this week as part of their employment and university preparation in Learning 4 Life. Our students responded really well to the opportunity to prepare and present themselves with professional feedback from a range of occupational experts. The learning was invaluable for everybody.

Congratulations to both Sofie Gowran and Natassia Choi who have been selected to represent Hong Kong in the regional netball tournament taking part in Japan during November. It is a great result to have two students selected for this tour from West Island and we wish you the best of luck. The B Grade Volleyball team also achieved their best yesterday after playing at Singapore International School and won the Championship Banner. Sunny Choi also achieved 2nd Honours in the Science Olympiad as part of the Hong Kong Academy for gifted learners. Champions every one of them, really well done.

I would like to share the news channel “ESF The First 50 Years” to celebrate our contribution and the achievements of our staff and alumni in Hong Kong. Interviews of some of our leaders, long-serving staff and alumni have been posted: stories, news and milestones are available until February 2018. The final 50 years celebration is our Gala Dinner on Wednesday, 6 December 2017. Please join ESF staff and I from 6pm at the Grand Ballroom, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Early bird prices before 8 November which include a three course meal and free flow during the evening are $1,700. Sales of tickets are through the ESF website at http://www.esf.edu.hk/gala

It was great to wave the first visit off this morning as twenty four students depart for New Zealand. We have visits to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. This week students and teachers will create memories, enjoy each other’s company, and complete service or action projects. Personal, memorable achievements and fun. I look forward to sharing the stories with you in a few weeks time and wish everybody safe travels.

As you plot your calendars, don’t forget to book tickets for our Circle in the Water production Bryony Lavery’s ‘More Light’.

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
(Principal)
