WIS Instrumental and Voice Lessons (2017 – 2018)

Correction:  We apologise for the incorrect publication of Ms Sarah Martin’s email address (Voice Teacher) last week. Her correct email address is  sarahmartinhk@gmail.com

Everyone is musical, everyone can sing, and every child can get an enormous amount of pleasure and benefit from learning a musical instrument.  It is an experience that will last throughout life.

We would like to encourage our community to learn a musical instrument while at West Island School. It is important to us that you have as much information as possible concerning teachers and choices available.

The lessons are conducted by visiting instrumental and voice teachers and are held during lunch breaks and between 3.30pm and 7.00pm, Monday to Friday in the music department at West Island School.

Students may be taught in groups or individually, depending on the instrumental/voice teachers’ recommendations. Please note that tuition fees are set and billed by the visiting instrumental/voice teachers, and all tuition arrangements are negotiated directly between the teacher, parent and student.

For the school year commencing August 2016, we are pleased to be able to offer tuition in the following instruments:

Chinese Musical Instruments: Er-Hu, Guzheng, Dizi (Chinese Flute), Yanqin

Clarinet

Saxophone

Drum Kit

Guitar (Electric & Acoustic)

Bass Guitar  (NEW for 2017-18)

Piano

Trumpet and other brass Instruments

Voice (NEW for 2017-18)

There are a small number of instruments available for loan through the school. Please contact Ms Leigh Dalgarno, Head of Creative Arts, for further information.

To find out more about lessons, availability and tuition fees please contact the instrumental/voice teacher directly to organise the lesson time and location.  Lesson fees should be paid directly to the teacher concerned.

When choosing an instrument it is important to consider the suitability and size.  If you have any queries regarding choosing an appropriate instrument for your child we recommend consulting the music staff at West Island School or the instrumental music teacher directly.

If your child receives instrumental lessons they may be interested in joining the other CAS music groups offered at the school. These opportunities offer additional value and rewarding musical experience allowing them to make faster progress.

Should you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact the music department.

Yours sincerely,

Ms Leigh Dalgarno
