Weekly Bulletin: Important Updates

Sedan Chair Race Report

Sedan Chair

It was tough - really really tough - but the WIS team went out hard and fast and were delighted to bring home the third place trophy in the highly competitive schools division. Only narrowly beaten by Li Po Chun College and Island School, the team ran the demanding 2.1 km course around Matilda Hospital on The Peak while carrying a Sedan Chair (with a 10KG bag of rice onboard) in 9 minutes and 41 seconds.

Well done to the following students in Y12 and Y13 for a great effort.

Raef Morrison (Team Captain)
Josh Kriesel
Tess Masters
Evan Fung
Miranda Robson
Kale Hyde
Jack Farrer
Bianca Frohlich

The annual race, which is a major fixture on the Hong Kong race and charity calendar, raises millions of dollars to support more than 30 Hong Kong charities.

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

I am writing to let you know that we have put in place a school “lock down” policy to be used in case of unexpected intrusion by strangers and to help provide protection for staff and students in the case of any perceived threat. The procedures ensure the safety of all students and staff in such a situation and will take place in a calm and measured way.

I would like to reassure you that there is no heightened threat to the school or the community at the moment and this is simply part of our ongoing review process to ensure that we are prepared for any scenario, no matter how unlikely.

Students will be practicing this “lock down” procedure early next week and as they may talk to you about it when they get home it is important that you are able to reassure them that it is a drill and that there is no need for any undue alarm.

Can I also take this opportunity to remind you that all parents must sign in at the security desk on arrival at the school and that you must wear your visitors badge at all times. This will avoid you being mistaken for an intruder and help to ensure a high degree of safety within the school. Access via the car park must be via the security guard so that we know who is in the building.

I appreciate your support with this,

Yours
Jane
