Swimming Gala

Dear Parents/Guardians

Swimming Gala and Sports Festival – Henry Fok Swimming Complex and Stanley Ho Stadium HKU, Sha Wan Drive, Pokfulam
Tuesday 4th October 2011 between 9.00 am and 1.20 pm

The annual Swimming Gala and Sports Festival will take place on Tuesday, October 4th 2011 between the hours of 9.00 am to 1.20 pm.  There will be no lessons so students do not need to bring bags to the gala.  Students may come to school in PE kit and should register as usual at 8.15am.  Year 7-9 students should wear flip-flops as the preferred footwear for the swimming gala.

Students should bring sunscreen and every student is expected to wear a hat.  All Year 7 students must wear their school caps to the event.  They should also bring plenty of water and snacks with them and make sure they hydrate properly and eat breakfast before coming to school.

There will be an opportunity for all students to ’swim for a dynasty point’ so the correct swimming costume is required. Finalists and relay swimmers are required to wear a Dynasty swim hat and marshal on time.  The programme of events will appear on the WIS website.

We are pleased to invite parents/guardians to attend this event.  There will be some keen competition and much cheering for friends, team mates and Dynasties.  If you wish to attend please send an email to freeman.lee@wis.edu.hk

School buses will collect students at the end of the Swimming Gala from the Hong Kong University site in Sandy Bay at 1.20 pm.

We hope that you enjoy this sporting occasion.

Yours sincerely

Jane Foxcroft
Principal

Are you fun, firm and flexible? WIS is now recruiting Educational Assistants (EAs) to work specially with students with learning needs. The role of the EA is to support and work alongside teachers both in the Individual Needs Department and subject teachers in the mainstream classrooms: Below is a brief description of the role:

  1. To support the students by working either with an individual or groups of students on specified tasks/programmes both within the school environment or around the community under the direction of the teachers.
  2. To support the teachers by liaising and feeding back about student progress.
  3. To support the school by working as a team in promoting the aims, ethos and policies of the School at all times.
  4. To support professional development opportunities by attending courses and training days whenever possible.

There are full time and part positions available. If you wish to know more about the Educational Assistants role please contact Gail Wright on gail.wright@wis.edu.hk

Year 9 Assessment

Dear Parents

Please note that we will be running the deferred Y9 assessment during the next two weeks in the Y9 Learning for Life classes.

The assessment, called MidYIS, is an online test which measures "developed ability" in areas such as vocabulary, maths as well as other areas related to spatial and perceptual abilities. This provides very useful information to assist in the teaching and learning process. As I mentioned in my previous message, no preparation is required for this assessment and it takes less than one hour to complete.

The students use their own laptops for the assessment and I would really appreciate it if you could remind your son/daughter to bring his/her laptop to school each day with the battery fully charged to ensure there is no disruption to the program.
