PTA News


School Fair

4 WEEKS TO GO until the fair.  Do you want to abseil down the front of the school?  Eat delicious XTC ice cream?  Stock up on those favourite sweets? Enjoy the usual favourite stalls as well as new and old games – gladiator and laser tag are back and there will be a scavenger hunt.   Come and enjoy all this and lots more as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of West Island School with a giant give away cup cake and a glass of bubbles – first come, first served! 

WIS Fair Raffle

Students should have received raffle tickets on Wednesday 8th February.  There are 82 prizes to be won; a full list of the prizes will be on the school website. Please encourage your child to sell as many tickets as possible and ensure all tickets stubs sold and unsold tickets are returned by Friday 2nd March.  All tickets must be accounted for.

 Chinese Food Stall

The Chinese food stall has always been one of the most popular stalls at the annual School Fair.  Your support is kindly needed.  Contributions can be made by helping at the stall, donating dishes or by making a cash donation.  Please click here for further details.

The Arena Opening March 01, 2012


We are delighted to announce the opening of our ARENA Gymnasium and Dance Studio, a wonderful space for sport and dance on the 9th floor Block A.

In order to celebrate the new addition to our facilities in this our 20th Anniversary Year, we would like to invite parents, siblings and staff to the official opening on Thursday March 1st which will be attended by former WIS Principal, Mr Brian Driver. Refreshments sponsored by the PTA will be available from 6pm followed by a Lion Dance and showcase performances by students in the Gymnasium and Dance Studio from 6:45pm.

There is limited space for this event and entry will be by ticket only. Tickets will be available from Wednesday February 08 on a first come first served basis from the main school office.  As this event is primarily for adults, there will be additional showcase performances for students to enjoy at 1.45pm on March 1st.

Visiting Technology Delegation


On Wednesday February 15th West Island School is hosting 50 delegates who will come to look at our 1:1 laptop programme and the use of learning technologies at WIS.  The delegates are technology specialists and senior managers from around the Asia Pacific region. They will be in school most of the morning to observe lessons and then discuss their observations.
 

School Accreditation and Early Closure on March 9th


The school is currently preparing for an important visit between the 4th and 9th of March from the accreditation team of the Council of International Schools and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (CIS-WASC). The visiting team will report back to teachers and members of the school council at the end of their visit. Consequently, school will end at 2pm for students on Friday, March 9th in order to accommodate the team’s important feedback session.  Please click here for further details.

West Island Community School for Adult Education

 

Kindly note that the next programme of courses for the West Island Community School for Adult Education will begin in April 2012.

Gloria Ellis, Soprano solo recital

 




After the success of Carmen, a collaborative opera project between Scottish Opera and the English Schools Foundation last September, soprano soloist Ms Gloria Ellis returns to Hong Kong to perform at West Island School on Thursday 23 February 4.30pm in a concert entitled Night and Day. Ms Ellis will sing a programme featuring a range of songs on the theme of Night and Day and songs performed will represent eras and genres of music history.  The recital is one hour in duration and it is highly recommended that WIS Choir and Cantare singers, IGCSE and IB musicians attend.  The concert is open to all members of the West Island School community and refreshments will be available. ESF students participate in the 5th Annual ISCMS Festival


81 talented Choral and Instrumental Students from West Island School, Island School, King George V, Shatin College, South Island School and Discovery College will participate in the ISCMS Festival between 15 - 19 February, at the Forbidden City Concert Hall, Beijing. West Island School Students attending are Maddie Bowers, Erica Cham, Victoria Cherrington, Sophie Chinneck, Jeanie Fung, Alan Hooley, Belle Hoon, Kyra Kalmar, Sakura Katsuura, Vicky Lee, Jessica Sham, Hingis Share, James Tseng, Michael Woo.

Watoto Choir Visit

 




Watoto, a celebrated children’s choir from Africa which has made headlines all over the world, will be performing at Island School on Tuesday, 21st February 2012 at 7.30pm. The performance offers a blend of native African rhythms, contemporary gospel music and ethnic dance. Please click here for further details.
 

Temporary Art Technician


WIS is looking to recruit a temporary Art Technician to help generally within the Faculty.  The successful candidate will be required to assist with a variety of duties including the setting up of Exhibitions.  No previous experience is necessary but a positive 'can do' attitude is essential.  To start immediately for approx 4-6 weeks.
