Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

Thank you to all staff and students who worked over the half term break. There were several sporting fixtures as well as students working with Mrs Hannaford in preparation for our Diwali Ball. The dances are looking good and I have my seats reserved for Wednesday’s performance. We have a few tickets left for Tuesday night; it promises to be a good one.

It has been nothing but Pink this week in aid of raising awareness and funds for breast cancer charities. Many of our students and staff have been affected and I am deeply proud of the courage our students show to do something positive as a community to aid research that will improve treatments. There are events at break and lunchtime including a pink triathlon, pink cakes, pink drinks and think pink – pink everywhere! Those we have lost or who have suffered with breast cancer will be honoured today in what we do.

Inter Dynasty continues to move from strength to strength. Wednesday saw the Inter Dynasty Cross Country challenge and nearly all of the school ran for a point. The final scores from the Swim Gala are available and I would encourage you to watch the video which was produced by Mr Tsang using our latest drone camera. It is inspiring.

Other inspiring personal achievements amongst our students to commend to you include Sienna Bertamini and Pearl Ng who have been selected for the next Hong Kong Youth Arts in Collaboration with the National Youth Theatre production of Flood. Their talent and commitment has been extraordinary to attend numerous rounds of selection, competing against hundreds of applicants. They will work with the world’s first youth theatre company which launched Helen Miren, Daniel Graig and Orland Bloom’s careers. Watch this space.

Well done to Oriane Guillot who made the team list to swim at the Hong Kong leg of the FINA Swimming World Cup 2017 last weekend in the 800 free and 400 free events. Oraine swam a personal best in her 800 free race winning by an 8 second margin. Oraine had the opportunity to swim against the best and it has given her the insight and ambition to be out in front of them within the next eighteen months. Given her performance yesterday and our recent swim gala, I am in no doubt she will do this. Well done to Oriane on a superb achievement!

Clayton Gibb, Jasper and Cela Caldwell also show their commitment having run four races in eight weeks to improve speed and performance at the AVOHK 5KM series. A few staff even managed to keep up with them too. Tom Armistead can be seen in all his glory whilst competing in the World Champions in Holland over the summer having made the front page of the Yacht Club Magazine. Exceptional.

Looking ahead, one of the most important things in life is laughter. It is relaxing, has positive effects on relationships and something we may forget to spend time nurturing in our lives. Mrs Carey has even introduced laughing yoga during her tutor time sessions. Great to know that the PTA has organised a Comedy Night by TakeOut Comedy held here on November 30. Curry, laughs and community, what better way to spend a Thursday evening. Please look up the details to make this inaugural evening a real success.

Finally, good luck to the AYP students and staff who are out on Saturday morning.

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
(Principal)
