Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

As we begin the countdown to summer, I would like to let parents of current Year 10 students know about a further offer that will be available from August 2018. Working with ESF, we have made an application to award the International Baccalaureate Careers Related Programme (IBCP) for Post 16 Learners. The programme is an overarching certificate which allows students to combine both BTEC, IB Certificates and a Personal Project to accredit their Post 16 learning. It has been a small step to take because of the wide variety of courses we already have. We will update you after the summer break when we have feedback on our application.

This week I would like to commend Tom Shirley in Year 12 for his work as Kit Manager with the HKFC. Tom has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure both the coaches and his team is fully prepared. He has also provided unfailing support to a number of WIS teams who are always thoroughly prepared for their games under his leadership. He has demonstrated commitment in his support of the coaches, motivating the players and for his sports journalism in reporting the final results. Thank you Tom.

With equal acclaim, we need to celebrate the achievements of both the swimming and languages teams who won their respective inter-school ESF competitions which both took place on Wednesday. Imagine my delight after talking with students in the morning about bringing the cups home for WIS, and they did. The languages team won the annual ESF Spanish Speech Festival hosted by KGV and our team of 50 swimmers won the ESF Swim Gala by just 2 points. Both are fantastic performances to be finishing the year with.

Students have been busy collecting their copies of WISDOM 2017, the Silver Jubilee Edition. The yearbook team have made it a stand out production and it captures not only the school spirit, but the growth of our community during the last 25 years. Remember to collect your copy from Ms Mulchandani before the end of term.

Looking forward, please make sure you have ordered the new sports kit if your child is part of the competitive sports teams. Ms Caldwell and the PTA have worked tirelessly to make sure our appearance on the courts is as good as our performance and it looks great. The students were really excited to try on the new look and wanted to take away the testers. It is important to get this ordered so that kits can be delivered in time for the August games.

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
