Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

I have just about dried off from the School Fair and while I have witnessed many young people throw in their PE lessons, many more seemed to find their energy and aim at the dunk tank on Saturday. It was a real pleasure to see so many families enjoying the work of our PTA and students. It was great to hear the music blasting through the hallways, to taste the variety of foods from our many communities and to draw the winning ticket from the tombola. The counting is still happening and I will let you know the final figure. For now, a huge thank you for such a fun day.

I am really looking forward to our big 25th Anniversary Gala Celebration on 2 June. We were working on this today and tickets will be very reasonably priced and will include food and a complimentary birthday cocktail on the deck area. We will have music and entertainment, so please look out for the tickets in the next few weeks.

I have met with Leon Rydell to congratulate him for his award as WIS Swimmer of the Month and Leia Green for her award of Athlete of the Month. Great effort and team work from both students.

Congratulations also to Mikkel Christensen and James Karton who were recognised as outstanding junior rugby athletes by the Hong Kong Sports Federation and Olympic Committee and received the Sports for Hope Foundation Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards 2016. They were celebrated for their outstanding sporting achievements and sporting excellence; a real accolade.

Our BTEC Business Students hosted all ESF schools on Wednesday for the annual ESF Marketing Competition. Students organised the event from start to finish including catering, hosting, liaising with Pizza Hut and organising prizes. Working in school groups, students were given the challenge of reinventing the menu, advert and slogan for the company. The Pizza Hut Marketing Director told me that the work produced in the room rivaled over a year’s worth of consultancy. Well done to all ESF schools for their engagement and to KGV for the overall prize.

Our 25th Anniversary Concert tickets are on sale now for the next community event. We will commemorate 25 years with music on Wednesday 29 March before the Easter holiday.  Tickets are reasonably priced at $25. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

Yours,
Christopher Sammons
