Principal’s Message

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends of WIS,

Please accept our apologies for not capturing the full success of our Rugby community. I was contacted by a parent from Sandy Bay Rugby Club who shared that we actually had many more young people representing Hong Kong in the New Year National Age Group matches. I was grateful to know this as the information only comes from families sharing their news. We are just checking on the list of 12 more names and will then report back to you – very, very proud of the individuals and that so many have been recognised for their talent.

We also scooped the ESF Geography Tournament Prize on Wednesday. Bringing together the best geographers throughout ESF, the tournament tested our Year 9 students and after six rounds of questions we won the competition for the first time! Well done on this great achievement.

As many of you already know, 2017 is a significant year not just for the Rooster; we are also celebrating 50 years of ESF and 25 years of West Island School. Please can I ask that you save 2 June as we are planning a community celebration to involve an evening of celebration, memory, merriment and dancing the night away with family and friends in our outdoor area. More information to follow soon.

In the meantime, celebrations for ESF include a music festival, sports festival and gala dinner as part of many events being held throughout the year. The first is the 50th Anniversary Secondary Concert is being held at Kwai Tsing Theatre on Wednesday, 22 February 2017 from 7.15pm. Music is being performed by: Discovery College, Island School, Jockey Club Sarah Roe School, King George V School, Renaissance College, Sha Tin College, South Island School and West Island School. I will be there and would be delighted to see you supporting our students too. Tickets are now on sale at all URBTIX outlets, the internet and Mobile Ticketing App.

Will let you know who wins Sports Day next week, have a great weekend.

Yours,

Christopher Sammons
