Year 7 Student Online CAS and Skills Reflections
Year 7 Student Online CAS and Skills Reflections
When do I write my reflections using the Gateway?
Student reflections on the Gateway (the school’s online information system) are written twice a year. The first reflection should be completed by December 12th and the second by June 4th. Students complete the reflections in one to one tutoring time and/or extended registration time. Tutors and Learning for Life teachers will help students write the reflections.
In writing the reflections students will need to:
- List the number of CAS activities done.
- Explain what they enjoyed and learned from doing these activities.
- Explain what activities they would like to do in the future and why.
- Write about the skills they are using in different lessons.

Example Student CAS Reflection
Example 1: In CAS this year I have taken part in Orchestra for creativity and swimming for action. I like orchestra because it's really fun to play with other people and I really like it when we preform. Sometimes it's hard because there are so many different instruments playing at the same time and you can't even hear yourself. It is also very interesting seeing the other instruments, and hearing how they sound like. I play violin 1 with Phoebe and we always play the melody. Swimming is very tiring at times but when you are able to beat your personal record or swim very fast that day you can feel very happy with yourself. I normally swim with Sophie and Lizzy and it's really fun but when we get shouted by the coach it's not really too fun... My favorite stroke is backstroke and I normally swim in Lane 3. I could try more harder in the training and not give up so easily.
Example 2: I currently have no activity for service, but as suggested and now doing, I sometimes help in the library as we always go there. We sometimes help put books back on shelves; carry books from place to another. It is really fun at times as well and it feels good to help. I need more activities on service though, as it is important to take part in a service activity. Next year I am going on the Thailand community service trip though so I can help a lot of kids. Next year I could also try finding an activity that involves service and that I like too.

Step 8.
You will need to enter a skills reflection. You should use the reflection completed in you Learning for Life lessons. You can copy and paste from your L4L e-portfolio to do this. Click Submit when finished.
