Important Information: Opening Routine for 2017-2018 School Year

Dear Parents/Guardians

To help all students make the best possible start in August, below is a reminder of the opening routines overleaf.  I would also like to prompt families about the preparations needed over the next few weeks:

  1. Access the school dates on Google Calendar or visit our website (click here) and make a note of start and end of terms.
  2. Act on the letter you have been sent by the PTA in May. You can use the online shop at wis.edu.hk (existing students) or paper form (new students)
    • Join the PTA
    • Order student stationary packs
    • Buy school uniform
    • Apply for a bus pass

(It is an ESF requirement for all families to become members of the PTA (only one membership per family is needed).

For all further information, please refer to the Family Manual, the Parents’ Support Site and the Students’ Support Site; please note that the support sites require a Wisdom login.

I will write to you again on 4 August and share usernames and passwords with new parents to access our Gateway, Wisdom and ePayment system. If you have any questions prior to this, please contact the school office on 2819 1962.

Wishing you a good summer break,

Yours sincerely,

Christopher Sammons
Principal

Limited bus service to school: Two buses will leave from South Horizons at 7.40 am calling at Blocks 30, 18, 12 and 6.  Two buses will leave from the Outlying Islands ferry pier (between piers 4 & 5) at 7.45 am.  Return buses to these stops will leave the school at 3.25 pm.  For other details of the school bus service please contact Anne Mason or Jen Lai in the PTA office: email pta@wis.edu.hk , telephone: 2816 7222 or fax: 2816 7293.

A full bus service will operate from Tuesday 15th August. Bus passes are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. If buses are full and you wish your child to go on a waitlist, please email the PTA Office on pta@wis.edu.hk.

All buses have a bus route number; students will be issued with a bus pass according to their application. Students cannot transfer from one bus route to another without permission from the PTA.

NB Ferry Pier Bus Service. There are 4 buses that service this route; these buses depart at staggered times from approx. 7.30/7.35/7.40 and 7.50 am. Only one bus can stop at the Ferry Pier at a time and it is important the buses are full when they depart. Students are requested to line up and get on the first available bus and not to hang around and wait for fellow students. The PTA cannot be held responsible if last bus, which departs at 7.50am is full. It is strongly advised that Discover Bay students catch the 7.00 am ferry – those taking the later ferry are at risk of not getting a seat on the last bus. NO student has the right to the 7.50 am bus departure time.

NO STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE BUSES WITHOUT A VALID BUS PASS.

New students in Years 8, 9 and 10.

Students should meet in the auditorium at 9.30am for an induction talk from Mr Hewson. They will spend time with their tutors, have a tour of the school and receive information about all school systems.

Remember to bring Octopus cards for snack and lunch.
