The Caucasian Chalk Circle – a Circle in the Water Production

“Terrible is the temptation to do good.”

Circle in the Water presents The Caucasian Chalk Circle – an adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s play about motherhood, ownership, love and loyalty. Set in a time of civil war, the play explores Grusha’s journey through the mountains in search of a home and protection for the abandoned baby she has rescued and cannot leave to be victim to the brutal soldiers who are hunting it down for a cash reward.

Highly relevant in the current context, the story is retold in a contemporary setting (by a cast of 40 students from Y7-12) to engage a modern audience and reflect on events in the press today. It promises to be intense, interesting and thought-provoking whilst reminding us of the universality of stories that explore the nature of what is good and what is right.

Performances are on the 9 and 10 December at 7pm in the auditorium.
