CAS Experience: WIS Students at St Christopher’s Home

Well done to Katie Ko, Alex Lawlor Price and Nicholas Chung who give art lessons at St. Christopher’s Home every Saturday from 10:30 am  to 12 noon.

St. Christopher’s is foster home for young children whose parents are not capable of looking after them for a variety of reasons. The children stay there during the week and are allowed to leave during the weekends to be with their families. WIS students schedule the classes just before they leave for their weekends at home. The students at the home sign up voluntarily and class sizes range from 7 to 10 with children aged 6 to 12 years old.

To keep their interest, WIS volunteers alternate the lesson content. They plan lessons and at the end of class they ask their students what they want to do the next week. Till date, lessons have varied from colour theory, Van Gogh, sketching, cartoon characters and seasonal group projects. For Halloween, students made animal masks and later made a Christmas tree using the hand prints.

This is a superb achievement and a remarkable opportunity.

Well done Katie, Alex and Nicholas!
