School Council

What does the School Council do?

The School Council meets 5 times in each academic year. At each meeting we hear reports from the Principal and from the representatives of ESF, the Teachers and the PTA. Particular issues include approving staff appointments, monitoring school achievements, discussing any changes to WIS, and resolving problems brought to the Council. The School Council exists to support the School in whatever way it can and members of the School Council are involved in the life of the school in various ways. WIS is an outstanding school and the Council seeks to maintain and enhance WIS’ standards.

How is the School Council different to other school bodies?

WIS has a number of important and distinct bodies: the Staff Association, the Student Council, the PTA Committee and the School Council. The School Council is the governing body of WIS and includes representatives from some of the other school bodies and from the Community. The School Council equates to the Board of Governors at some other schools

Why is there a School Council?

According to the ESF Ordinance, each School must have a School Council. The School Councils fit into the ESF structure in the following way. The Foundation delegates to the Executive Committee authority to administer ESF affairs, property and finances. The Executive in turn delegates many of these powers to the School Councils, which in turn delegates the day to day running and control of the school to the Principal. The School Council can report to ESF on issues affecting the school through the ESF’s Management Committee.

Who is on the School Council?
